Over the weekend, I went with my family to Steak ‘n Shake in midtown (1695 Broadway). The burgers there were unique (thin and crispy at the edges) and the thin potato stick fries were definitely tasty. But what really got me excited were the awesome Steak ‘n Shake soda machines – they are the coolest ones I have ever seen.
In fact, the two giant, red, space-age looking soda machines were the first thing I noticed when I walked up to the counter. As soon as I placed my order for an original double ‘n cheese with fries and a soda, I got an empty cup and headed for one of the machines. I was really surprised to see that it was touch screen! The best part is when you click on the type of soda you want; it then proceeds to offer you many varieties of that soda. For example, when you press the button for plain Coke, it will offer you flavors like lime Coke and cherry vanilla Coke (you can still choose plain of course). There were several flavors that I had never even heard of before like raspberry Coke and green apple Fanta. If you play with the buttons successfully, you can even mix the flavors together. Steak and Shake is a really fun place to try — and an especially exciting place if you like to play with soda machines.
(Note: there aren’t many places to sit at this Steak ‘n Shake. This is the only one in NYC so far, but Steak ‘n Shake is a chain from the Midwest. We ended up eating our meal standing up at the upright counter.)
