I had heard about David Burke’s cheesecake lollipop tree dessert from several people: they all said I would really like them. This past Sunday at brunch, I finally got to try his famous cheesecake lollipops at David Burke Townhouse (133 East 61st Street, New York, NY 10065, www.davidburketownhouse.com).
I thought they would be good, but I never expected them to be amazingly delectable, totally refreshing, and so fun. The lollipops arrive on a tree that has little holes in it for all the lollipop sticks so the whole dish looks great from the start. When you first see the tree, you kind of feel like you just got invited to a circus or a birthday party. There are several different kinds of lollipop: all are very good, but my favorite is the one with the pure, crunchy chocolate crust. (I did my best to keep my little brother away from these.) The cheesecake lollipops are just awesome after a meal because they are pleasingly cold and tasty bite-sized treats. All I can say is that I should have “branched out” and tried one of these trees years ago … I will have to make up for the lost time by ordering these again (and again) soon.
